Wide-viewing angle in-plane switching liquid crystal displays for television applications using optical compensation technology

چکیده
bstract. Viewing angle performance in in-plane switching liquid rystal displays (IPS-LCDs) has been greatly improved, using two echnologies. One is optical compensation technology using a biaxal film. The other is a newly developed IPS-Pro cell structure with igher transmission efficiency. These technologies are successfully ntroduced into the fabrication of 32-in. IPS-LCDs with a minimum ontrast ratio over three times that of conventional IPS-LCDs and ith color saturation (area ratio to NTSC at CIE1931 xy chromaticity oordinates) of more than 70% at almost all viewing angles. © 2008 PIE and IS&T. In-plane switching liquid crystal gel for polarization-independent light switch
An in-plane switching (IPS) liquid crystal (LC) gel for light shutter is demonstrated. In the voltage-off state, the LC gel is transparent. As the voltage exceeds a threshold, light scattering occurs due to microdomain formations. This light scattering is found to be polarization independent. Such an IPS LC gel is a broadband device and has a wide viewing angle and a relatively fast response ti...

A wide-view single cell gap transflective liquid-crystal display (TR-LCD) using the fringe field switching effect is proposed by incorporating a quarter-wave in-cell-retarder below the liquid-crystal (LC) cell in the reflective part. By optimizing the angle between the electrode stripes and the LC rubbing direction in the transmissive and the reflective regions, this TR-LCD exhibits a high opti...

The bending angle effect on a multi-domain in-plane switching liquid crystal display (MD IPS LCD) using the chevron-shaped electrodes is investigated through a three-dimensional simulation. We find that when the bending angle of the electrodes increases from 10 to 40 , the threshold voltage is lowered from 1.25 Vrms to 0.75 Vrms. With the optimized uniaxial compensation films, the viewing angle...

متن کاملThe (hydro)dynamic temperature behaviour of vertically aligned liquid crystal displays
Vertically aligned liquid crystal displays (VA-LCDs) are very attractive for application in television sets and mobile devices because of their excellent contrast ratio and wide viewing angle, realized by using multi-domain structures. However, the dynamic behaviour of VA-LCDs can be affected by a reverse flow phenomenon [1], referred to as backflow, when a voltage step with amplitude exceeding...
